Sunny In Cancun Mexico
Hello world, happy Friday to you all!
I’ve travelled to a lot of countries prior to starting this blog. I will be sharing some of my previous travels between current travels. Cancun, Mexico was my first travel last year. I visited Cancun, Mexico with my little sister for few days in January of 2015. I’ve been to Cancun twice prior to this trip but this was the most memorable. Cancun is probably one of the most underrated cities. Most people see it as just a party city, but there is so much more to Cancun than that.
BEFORE TRAVELING TO MEXICO
Every tourist must have an easily obtainable Mexican government tourist permit. Some nationalities also need to obtain visas. Citizens of the US, Canada, EU countries, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Norway and Switzerland are among the dozens of countries whose citizens do not require visas to enter Mexico as tourists.
We had a connecting flight in North Carolina from IAD. Upon arrival at the airport, please be aware of the aggressive tour guides and taxi service representatives. They will attempt to convince you to stay at an all incisive resorts, “the stay is free or almost free.” Politely decline these offers because the target is to have you stay at the resort for possibly purchase of a timeshare.
Where we stayed is not a long drive from the airport. 15 mins drive from the airport and you are on the beach. The check in at Westin Resort & Spa Cancun seem very quick and easy, much like a whirlwind. After checking in. I believe I had seen the most beautiful oceanic view ever.
Welcome gifts from the amazing Westin team.
My sister trying to take it all in.
After checking out the room, we went to the beach which is basically few steps outside the room.
Trust me when I tell you, pictures doesn’t do this place justice.
I had short, blonde hair last year. For the last few years, I have this love hate relationship with my hair. Some times I cut it all off, other times I am in the mood of growing it out.
It was time for some snacks before dinner. I ordered typical Mexican food while my sister decided to order pizza and she couldn’t keep anything down the entire night. My advise, DO NOT eat pizza, or non Mexican food while in Mexico. Besides, you are in another country, stay away from your routine food.
I have no idea why I was doing such pose.
The next day, we went to Selvatica Park. I loved every minute of our visit to this amazing park. If you are adventurous, I strongly encourage you to go to this place. They offer adventures such at ATV ride, Mud Madness, Zip-line and so many other amazing adventures.
Group photo before the beginning of some awesome activities.
We started with zip lining.
This was my sister first time doing something adventurous even with an upsetting stomach. She was sick the entire time from the night before but still managed to do it.
Riding ATV for the first time. Got stuck countless times in the mud but our tour guide was there to assist throughout and even took photos of us.
We made it back to the main entrance of the park for lunch and selections of photos taken by the staffs throughout the activities. The driver and I decided to have a photo-shoot. lol.
The bathroom was very unique.
More adventures and exploring the next day.
I was taking pictures of every and anything while in a bus for six hours.
Our first stop was Ik Kil Cenot located in Yucatán.
Ik Kil Cenote, (some refer to it as ikil cenote) is a deep natural pit usually open to the sky (formed by the collapsing of a cave), Mexico has a special name for those kind of places: “cenote” -taken from Mayan language word for a well. Some Cenotes were a sacred, young men and women were thrown and left to drown there,as a sacrifice to the god of rain.
Ik Kil cenote is a popular stop on the way to the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. The Cenote is about 25 meters beneath the surface. the pool itself is about 60 meters in diameter, the water are very deep around 35 meters. There are vines descending from the top and little water drops constantly flow from above.
There are some black catfish which live on the pool, not to worry they don’t bite.Well at least they didn’t bite me while swimming.
The stairway is beautifully lit up & carved into limestone rock and reaches the swimming platform.
After swimming in the most beautiful natural pool, it was time for some delicious Mexican food.
After lunch, my sister and I took turns on this hammock. I didn’t want to leave.
I wanted to buy one of the hammocks until my sister said “but you don’t have a backyard.” So I settled for a picture instead.
Our last exploring for the day was Chichén Itzá. Large Mayan archaeological site and one of the most notable and recognized landmarks on the Yucatán: The site itself was originally a main hub of Mayan civilization and has since been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The focal point of the ruins is the pyramid-like El Castillo that was once used by Mayans as a temple to worship. One of the new seven wonders of the world. About a two-and-a-half hour car or bus ride from Cancún. You can avoid crowds by visiting the site in the early morning before the tour buses arrive.
Tourist behavior in front of the entrance.
Many things for sale in front of the entrance. They will usually tripled the price so try to bargain and negotiate as much as possible.
My sister and I ditched our group as soon as we entered. We wanted to explore and learn on our own. We met back with the group by the end of the day to head back to Cancun.
First glance at this amazing structure!
We tried to take the perfect pictures, but since there were so many tourists, our perfect picture end up being a selfie. If you look closer, you will see the selfie stick in my sister’s bag sticking out.
There were more shops inside.
One of my favorites photos while exploring Chichén Itzá. She convinced us to buy something from her through body languange. She was selling beautiful handkerchief with Chichén Itzá symbols. After the transaction, I took my camera out and made signs that I will like to take her picture. She fixes her hair and posed! It was so cute to watch. I love interacting with people from different culture even when there is a language barrier.
We partied with some locals after getting back to Cancun.
The next day, was a combination of work and relaxation. I met with the amazing team at the Westin Resort and Spa for a tour of the entire resort.
Since I was in Cancun in January, I wanted to do Valentine Day weekend getaway guide for another blog I was running at the time. The staffs were nice enough to decorate one of the rooms with everything that screams LOVE! I honestly cannot thank them enough. My trip in Cancun was memorable thanks to Westin Resort & Spa Cancun.
Next, was the spa. The Heavenly Spa by Westin mission is to use all five senses to soothe the mind and body while uplifting the spirit.
There is a Salon at the Spa.
Tennis court
Loved the grounds, there are several excellent locations to lounge and just relax beside the pool and beach. It’s pretty clean and the furniture is modern and inviting. The beach was great, as the water was blue, the sand was a great white, and the waves rolled so beautifully
Another outside spa.
It was time to enjoy the beach because I had only one day left in this paradise.
The next day, I got up at 5am for an early swim and to watch the sunrise since it was my last day in this beautiful place.
One of my favorites things to do when I am on a beach getaway is to watch the sunrise. I asked my sister to dip her hands in the sand and plaster them on my behind. I remember posting similar image on my personal social media page at the time, many thought I was with some guy. I love how some people are so quick to assume based on what they see on social media. Well there you have it. My sister’s long hands did this artwork on my ass. lol
Being a big kid as usual.
One of my favorites picture right before heading back to the room, shower, and get ready for the airport. Too sexy for myself.
I was in complete bliss my entire stay in Cancun, I felt relaxed, inspired and safe. Everything about Cancun seemed perfect to me. Their culture, the nature and beaches, the locals were so incredibly helpful and kind. I probably met some of the coolest and most interesting people in the world on this trip.
I hope this post helps inspire you all to visit this gorgeous paradise that has more to offer than just partying.
